Pedodontics

Pedodontics is the dental specialty that considers the prophylaxis and treatment of conditions specific to the temporary dentition and the permanent dentition in adolescents.

Caries prevention starts at home with proper brushing twice a day, using mouthwash and dental floss, proper nutrition and should be supplemented with specific treatments:

Sealing of grooves and dental pits, the first places where tooth decay could appear, with a photopolymerizable composite material (sealant). The integrity of the seals is checked once every 6 months and determines the long-term effectiveness of the treatment. The procedure is performed without anesthesia, without pain, and in a single session one or more necessary seals can be made: approximately 8 masses up to around the age of 12 years and 16 masses after the age of 12 years.

Fluoridation is a method of supplementing the amount of fluoride in the teeth in order to strengthen the surface of the enamel and increase the natural protection of the teeth. The fluoridation treatment is primarily indicated for children during the formation of permanent teeth.

Fluoridation in the dental office is a non-invasive procedure and easily tolerated by the child.

The stages of the fluoridation procedure: after a professional brushing, a fluoridating gel is applied to the surface of the teeth for about 3 minutes.

Prophylaxis by fluoridation is carried out 2-3 times a year for maximum efficiency, conditional on compliance with the other prevention methods: correct brushing twice a day, use of mouthwash and dental floss, proper nutrition and monitoring the integrity of the seals performed.
